Make Transitioning to Kindergarten Easy

Kindergarten Ready serves as an information hub about Shawnee County kindergarten readiness. This website helps you do the following:
· Determine where your child will attend school
· Link to your public school district’s kindergarten web pages with school-specific information, forms, key dates and frequently asked questions.
· Link to private school options
· Link to information about developmental screening opportunities
· Link to area events supporting kindergarten readiness and transitions

Partners in Kindergarten Ready

The Shawnee County Kindergarten Transitions Team grew from a goal identified in 2017 by Momentum 2022 to create community-level coordinated support for all children’s transition into kindergarten. Representatives from all six Shawnee County public school districts joined with private schools, preschools, Child Care Aware of Eastern Kansas, Head Start, Kansas Children’s Discovery Center, Parents as Teachers, TARC, Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, United Way of Greater Topeka, and Washburn University Institute of Technology to adopt a shared vision:

Shared vision:
“Every family in Shawnee County, no matter where they live or where their child will attend school, will have access to support and information regarding the transition to kindergarten.”

Grant Funding

This website is supported through a grant from Subgrants for Kindergarten Readiness 2021 through the Kansas Children’s Cabinet and Trust Fund.

Family Advisory Board

The Family Advisory Board includes a diverse mix of parents with preschool and kindergarten-aged children from across Shawnee County. Parents provide input and share ideas about the information and support they need during their child’s transition to kindergarten. The group meets four times a year through Zoom and/or various in-person locations across Shawnee County.

All parents are welcome to participate. No long-term commitment is required.
